For up and coming new mens brand, Banks, the goal behind making clothes is simple, and in the words of founder Tim Cochran, “Our mission is to merge style and understated functionality with a sustainable approach to design and development.” Using that platform as a foundation on which to grow a unique yet classic design, Bank is “for the 25 to 40-year-old male who has grown up with surf brands and is now looking for a brand that has matured with him.” This elevated mind-frame sets the designs from Banks apart from other brands in a cluttered market as, “everyone is making clothes for younger guys and we are focusing on the guys who grew up surfing, but are influenced by other passions like photography, music, architecture, and travel.”
Banks is a global brand, functioning on an international level bringing together not only its employees, but most importantly its consumers. Started by 3 surfers each from their own corners of the globe, Tim Cochran teamed up with renowned surfers Brad Gerlach and Masahiro Shibahara to create Banks. Cochran explains, “We have about 25 people globally helping out including all the sales support teams. It’s unique in strategy, but in some regards, it's a benefit as well because most big brands work at global level and that’s how we are starting.”
In the true surf spirit, a large part of what Bank does is develop manufacturing techniques that are eco-friendly and aware. Not only do they create a product that combines quality with functionality, “We are also approaching product in more sustainable way, and each year we will look at decreasing our carbon footprint.” Look cool, wear Banks, save the planet, and shop at Aust.! Cheers!
